I bought an Insignia USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter with my early 2015 MacBook Pro. I don't have a CD drive, so I downloaded the driver from their website. Now, when I try to go to my network preferences, it takes about 5 minutes to load. I was trying to. USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit RJ45 Ethernet Network LAN Adapter for PC Mac. I have a Macbook Air running 10.7.4 and I'm trying to connect to ethernet using the official Apple USB to ethernet adapter. However, the mac never detects the new network interface. It never displays a dialog asking me to set it up. It doesn't show up in network preferences. As far as I can tell, the mac doesn't know it's even plugged in.
1. I'm using the Apple dongle, USB to Ethernet. OS is High Sierra 13.13.4
Download ASIX AX88772 USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet Adapter for Windows to net driver. INSIGNIA USB Ethernet Adaptor driver and wifi problem. After I installed “INSIGNIA USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter’s Driver” on my mac for My timecapsule. (That Driver name is “RTUNICv1.0.8.pkg). Problem 1 - I can’t use wifi and don’t see wifi driver. I can’t use my time capsule by wifi and by ehernet cable.
2. Could not see the connection in network settings.
3. When you plug in the dongle, go to the menu bar, and click on About this Mac. Choose System Report. Scroll down to the USB section. You should see AX88772 (it's important that the dongle is plugged into the USB port on the MB). I think that's what the dongle wants in terms of the driver, which for some reason seems to have been broken in this iteration of OS.
4. Go to the ASIX website and download the driver for AX88772. I used the latest version 2.6.0
5. Install the package. The machine may give you a message saying your security preferences are blocking it. Just go to security preferences and tell it to allow installation.
6. The machine will ask to restart. Restart it.
7. Go to network settings. You should now see the option for the USB to Ethernet connection. Connect your Ethernet cable to the dongle, and you should be in business.
Hope this helps. Just wasted 5 hours of my life over a few days trying to figure this out, and add in two hours with the ever polite, but in this case unhelpful Apple support people.

The dongle that RokuShawn recommends has been discontinued for a new product here:

I bought this new dongle and hooked up to my Sharp 43 inch Roku TV.
I've done the system restart, the factory reset, and the reboot to no avail.
I called Sharp and they say this will not work, that there's no way to get drivers into the TV, but isn't the belkin dongle 'driverless'?
